The Photo Contest is open to anyone, except for members of the TechLine Invasive Plant production team. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.
The Photo Contest is sponsored by TechLine Invasive Plant News (http://techlinenews.com) in Helena, Montana. This Photo Contest is in no way sponsored by, endorsed by, administered by, or associated with, Facebook.
C. Entry Period
The Photo Contest begins at 12:00 am MST on August 15, 2016 and ends at 11:59 pm MST on October 14, 2016. Entries submitted before or after the Entry Period will not be eligible. Sponsor’s computer is the official time-keeping device for the Photo Contest.
D. What to Enter
Content / Categories
TechLine Invasive Plant News is committed to providing invasive plant professionals access to new, innovative, and proven science-based information. For our 2016 Photo Contest, you may submit up to three (3) photographs in each of two categories: 1) terrestrial invasive plants (individual plants, plant parts, or plant populations) or 2) terrestrial invasive plant management in action (professionals, volunteers, and land owners implementing methods or using tools and technology to manage invasive plants and restore desirable plant communities).
All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter in the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified.
Entries may originate in any format – including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints – so long as they are submitted electronically in a .JPEG, .jpg or .png form.
Please submit files no larger than 20 MB at the time or entry.
Caption information should include: Subject name (plants and/or people), Location, City, State/Province, and detailed description of subject. Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted may be entered as long as you still maintain the right to grant us a license. You must be able to disclose when and where the photo appeared previously to TechLine upon request.
Photos that violate or infringe upon another person’s rights, including but not limited to copyright. TechLine shall determine entry eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion.
E. How to Enter
All images must be submitted through our photo submission website form, including all required fields, such as name, email and other information about your photo submission. Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org if you have difficulty using this form. You can select up to 3 images directly from your computer desktop for each of the two categories. The sponsor reserves the right to reject any additional entries or entries that do not comply with these Official Rules. By entering, you indicate your unconditional agreement to, and acceptance of, these Official Rules and Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding. You cannot win a prize unless you comply with all requirements in these Official Rules. Entrants may be asked to supplement their submission (such as with a paragraph about their photo or the highest resolution version of their photo) anytime on or after August 15, 2016.
Photos will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, artistic merit and subject matter relevance to invasive plants and invasive plant management. Judging will be conducted by a panel of invasive plant management and photography professionals at TechLine’s sole discretion. The Panel will evaluate all valid entries and select One (1) winner of the “Invasive Plant” category AND one (1) winner of the “Invasive Plant Management in Action” category.Winners will be notified of their status within 10 days of October 14, 2016. All judging decisions are final. Please do not contact us about the status of entries or judging. TechLine will notify the winner via the contact information provided at the time of entry. If the winner fails to respond within 14 days, an alternate potential winner may be selected in his/her place.
TechLine Invasive Plant News will award the following prizes. One (1) winner of the “Invasive Plant” category AND one (1) winner of the “Invasive Plant Management in Action” category will receive:
- A $200 gift certificate to their choice of either REI or FORESTRY SUPPLIERS.·
- A photo mention in TechLine Invasive Plant Management magazine.·
- Mention on TechLine’s digital presences·
- Subscription to TechLine Invasive Plant Management magazine and/or email newsletter.
If a potential winner fails to respond, an alternate potential winner may be selected in his/her place.
H. E-Newlsetter Subscription
When you enter, you automatically subscribed to TechLine’s email list. Email subscribers received 1 to 2 emails per month including information about invasive plant management. You may cancel and unsubscribe at any time.

J. Rights, Conditions & Limited Liability
Your photographs help TechLine Invasive Plant News share innovative research, success stories and tips with invasive plant managers. Thank you for helping to further our mission through your photography. You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit—including ownership if applicable. If you submit a photograph to enter the Photo Contest, you grant TechLine a royalty-free, nonexclusive right to:
- Use the photograph on the Internet and in Social Media in support of our mission. ·
- Use the photograph in TechLine’s internal and external communication materials including but not limited to websites, web publications, fact sheets, advertising, multimedia, presentation and subscriber services, and TechLine magazine.·
- Provide your photograph to other individuals and organization for TechLine-related use in news stories, newsletters, reports, slide shows, displays, web pages, videos, and the like. ·
- Use, in connection with the Photo Contest, your name, city, state, and country of residence in promotions and other publications. · Retain a digital copy of your photograph that will be archived in the TechLine photo library.·
- TechLine will endeavor to credit all photographs with the caption “Person’s Name” when the full name is available.
RELEASE AND LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY
By entering, you agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor, Facebook, their respective parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents (the “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Photo Contest or receipt or use of any prize, including, but not limited to: (a) unauthorized human intervention in the Photo Contest; (b) technical errors; (c) printing errors; (d) late or undelivered mail; (e) errors in the administration of the Photo Contest; or (f) injury or damage to persons or property. You waive the right to claim any attorneys’ fees and any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages.
