Herbicide Ballistic Technology (HBT)

Herbicide Ballistic Technology (HBT) is proving effective for control of incipient weed populations in natural areas. Dr. James Leary, Invasive Weed Specialist at the University of Hawaii, has been researching, developing, and refining methodologies to use HBT to control invasive weeds in Hawaii. HBT uses paintball guns and encapsulated herbicide gel cap “balls” to provide accurate, long range directed herbicide applications for hard to reach incipient weed populations. Although encapsulated herbicide “balls” are not commercially available, this application technology may prove to be a tool for on-ground invasive plant managers in the future.
